Why we are called Web Wombats.

The best diggers in the outback.

Wombats are stocky Australian marsupials, and they are exceptional engineers. A single burrow system can run to thirty meters of tunnels with multiple entrances and sleeping chambers. Inside, the temperature stays stable while the surface swings between frost and heat. Burrows are maintained, extended and reused across generations.

When the fires came.

During Australia’s 2019 and 2020 bushfires, a story went around that wombats were heroically herding other animals into their burrows. That part is internet legend; wombats herd no one. What researchers actually found on camera traps is quieter and better: wallabies, echidnas, skinks and birds moved into wombat burrows and survived there, because the burrows were simply there, and they held.

Good infrastructure does not need to be heroic. It needs to hold.

The point.

A measurement layer is a burrow. It sits underneath everything, nobody photographs it for the annual report, and every team above ground quietly depends on it: marketing steers by it, finance reconciles against it, experiments live in it. When it is engineered well, it holds through platform changes, consent changes and the occasional fire.

That is the standard we named ourselves after. The glasses on the wombat are ours.
